Why is FSS fee deducted from my salary?

FSS fee is a statutory payment, which is used to fund service provided by Finnish Seamen’s Service (FSS).

FSS organizes different types library, information, sports and welfare service as well as sports, culture and recreational activities.

What do I get in return?
 

Seafarers who pay FSS fee are entitled to use all of the services FSS provides.

Through our library service you can order books and dvd’s to your vessel. We also deliver the latest newspapers and magazines to vessels via our field officers and contact persons.

FSS-organizes speciality prices at sports centres and ogranises some recreational activities annually that seafarers paying the FSS fee are welcome to join.

How much do I pay FSS fee?
 

FSS fee is 0,15 %, i.e. one and a half per mille of seafarer’s monthly gross income. If a seafarer’s monthly salary is 3.500 € a month, MEPA fee is 5,25 € a month and 63 € a year.
