Nordic Photo Contest 2025

Bring seafaring life into pictures and join the competition!


The Nordic Photo Contest is now open! All seafarers working on vessels under the Finnish flag are welcome to participate, regardless of nationality.

By sending your photos to FSS, you will automatically take part in both the main Nordic competition and the Finnish national competition. In Finland’s competition, three category winners will be awarded, and one of these will be chosen as the Photo of the Year. In the Nordic competition, the five best photos overall will be awarded.

You don’t need professional skills or equipment. Photos taken with a mobile phone are more than enough!

Finland's categories and prizes

  • Working on board
  • Community and life on board
  • Ship, landscape, and nature

Participants don’t need to decide which category their photo belongs to.

Each category winner will receive a €50 gift card to Verkkokauppa.com. From these three winners, one will be chosen as the Photo of the Year, with a prize of a €100 gift card.

Guidelines for photos

  • Maximum 15 photos per participant
  • Minimum file size 2 MB per photo
  • Photos must not have been published previously and must have been taken within the last two years
  • Theme: seafaring
  • Moderate editing allowed (e.g. exposure, contrast, cropping, sharpening)
  • Each photo must have a title and location
  • Each submission must include:
    • Photographer’s contact details (name and email)
    • Position on board
  • The latest vessel the photographer has worked on
  • The photographer is responsible for obtaining consent from any people appearing in the photos

Note! The organizers reserve the right to use competition photos in their own publications as well as in the communications of other non-profit maritime organizations.
