Funding

How is FSS funded?

FSS is funded primarily through the statutory FSS service fees provided for in the Finnish Seamen's Service Act.

The FSS service fee is paid by both seafarers working on Finnish-flagged vessels and their employers. The fee is 1.5 per mille (0.15%) of the seafarer's gross salary and is paid in equal parts by the seafarer and the shipping company.

The FSS service fees fund FSS services, including library and ship services as well as other leisure-time activities.

For seafarers

Seafarers who pay the FSS service fee are entitled to use all FSS services. The fee is deducted automatically from your salary.

For example, if your gross monthly salary is EUR 3,000, your statutory FSS service fee is EUR 4.50 per month.

For shipping companies

Shipping companies are required to collect the seafarer's service fee and pay the employer's service fee to FSS.
