Nordic Photo Contest for Seafarers

Send us your best photos of seafaring life!

With a single entry, you will participate in both the Finnish and the Nordic Photo Contest.

The contest is open to all seafarers working on board vessels sailing under the Finnish flag, regardless of nationality.

You do not need a professional camera. Photos taken with a mobile phone can also win.

How does the contest work?

Send your photos to FSS at tapahtumat(at)mepa.fi. The same photos will be entered into both the Finnish and the Nordic Photo Contest.

In the Finnish contest, one winner will be selected in each category:

At Work on Board
Community and Life on Board
Ship, Landscape and Nature

You do not need to choose a category. FSS will place your photos in the appropriate category.

The winner of each category will receive a €50 gift card to Verkkokauppa.com. One of the three category winners will also be selected as Photo of the Year and will receive a €100 gift card.

In the Nordic Photo Contest, the five best photos will be awarded. The prizes consist of photography equipment worth approximately €350–€670, depending on exchange rates.

Photo guidelines

maximum 15 photos per participant
minimum file size 1 MB
photos must not have been published previously
photos must have been been taken within the past two years
photos must be related to seafaring
moderate editing is allowed, for example adjusting exposure, contrast, cropping and sharpening
each photo must have a title and the location where it was taken

Please include the following information with your entry:

your name
your email address
your position on board
the last vessel you worked on

If identifiable people appear in the photos, it is the photographer's responsibility to obtain their consent.

The organisers reserve the right to use the submitted photos in their own publications.

Schedule and entries

You can take and submit photos throughout the year. You may submit your photos in several batches. The contest always closes in January of the following year.

The 2026 contest is open until 14 January 2027.
